Beloit College Mindset List

The Beloit College Mindset List was a very interesting list that was funny but confusing at the same time. One thing is true, "a generation comes and goes in the blink of our eyes, which are, like the rest of us, getting older and older." Time never stops but neither do we.

Some of the things that I thought were confusing and not true is the fact that email is too slow. Iowa State uses emails like its their job. That's the way professors, clubs, and colleges communicate with the students. Another thing I found confusing was that the fact that Korean cars were all over American highways. Who knows what cars are made from Korea, besides the car experts. I even went around and asked a few of my friends to give me a Korean car that they see a lot; they couldn't come up with any. Those were just a few of the things from the list that I found confusing.

Some of the things that I thought were perfectly said was the fact that few students know how to write in cursive. It's true; why did we waste our time in third grade to learn cursive if we were never going to have to use it? Another thing that is true is the fact that you can do community service to earn money for college. What's the point of calling it community service if you don't just do it to help people? Another thing is the face that children have always been trying to divorce their parents. Why do all teenagers have to be so rebellious and rude to their parents? My step brother tries to be funny like that and it's not funny at all. Those were some of the things that I thought were extremely correct with our generation.

The Beloit College Mindset List has a lot of good points. The class of 2014 is a pretty fun and advanced generation compared to the past generations. It really shows how the world has changed over the years when you read this list. College is just the beginning for us and we are now starting to have some fun.

  1. Amen to Iowa State using email like it's their job! It would probably be more beneficial for them to use Facebook, but I'm sure figuring out how to use email was enough work for them!

  3. I agree with you on the community service comment. Community service should only have one purpose, helping others without getting paid in return. It's for the feeling of helping out.

  4. I agree that time never stops and neither do we. There always seems to be the "next best thing" out. It's hard to keep up! Seems like a lot of people agreed and disagreed with the same things.

  5. I agree that not many people our age write in cursive, but you do see those people every now and then that only write in cursive. I think it's just a personal choice. It may not be the most popular one but there are still those in the minority that like to use it. I personally think it looks kind of cool and more professional than regular print.

  6. I agree with you there about the parents comment. I love my parents and I'm not ashamed. I'm a rebellious teenager because I don't follow the common stereotype.

  7. The cursive one makes me giggle. I remember learning cursive in 3rd grade and my teacher told us that when we get in junior high and high school that that is all we will write in. I've tried to take notes in cursive before... I couldn't read it afterwords...haha.

Hyundai is a Korean car manufacturer (I had to look it up because I was curious).

  8. I completely agree with the email/ISU comment: it takes my professors like 37,395,048 hours for them to reply to my message...grrr!

  9. I strongly agree with the thing about community service to earn money for college. what is the point of calling it community service if your actually getting paid for it!! what ever happend to good will and pure generosity. people should do things willingly to help out, not have an incentive behind their efforts.

  10. Honestly I never check my Facebook, so I don't think ISU should depend solely on this. Also I not an expert on cars but the comment on Korean cars in the US, Korean cars are not popular in the US but Japan is the leading car manufacture anywhere. Also the US started importing cars in late nineteen hundreds.
